Two pieces of inverted VBoard® replace corrugated Z-pieces (flat sheets scored in two places to form a Z) inside cartons of frozen crusts. When Z-pieces were used in the cartons, the stacked products rubbed against the center section of the dividers, crumbling the edges of the crusts. When light-caliper VBoard is used instead, it acts like a spring, separating the stacks of product and keeping them from bumping together without creating a new surface for them to rub against. Packers say that the VBoard is easier to insert than the Z-pieces as well.
This application also works for tray-packed frozen crusts, where it provides greater stability to the trays in addition to separating the product stacks.
