Laminations’ Newest Products Reaffirm Commitment to the Environment

Company continues to use recycled materials to produce recyclable edge protection solutions

APPLETON, Wis., May 04, 2006—Laminations®, part of Great Northern Corporation’s Specialty Group, has upheld its commitment to environmental stewardship by introducing three new edge protection products, HydroShield™, PetroShield™ and ScuffShield™, that are made from recycled materials and also are recyclable.

“Our engineering team seeks to develop solutions that can be manufactured with minimal environmental impact,” said Gary Hietpas, vice president, marketing and sales. “We have long held a commitment to the environment, and as we develop new products, we seek to use recycled materials in production and to create products that are recyclable.”

All Laminations’ paperboard products are made from recycled fiber, approximately 80percent of which is post-consumer waste and 20 percent of which is pre-consumer waste. They also are 100 percent recyclable and in some cases can be used more than once.  By providing maximum protection with a minimum amount of material, Laminations’ products are a natural choice for source reduction as well.

HydroShield™, PetroShield™ and ScuffShield™ feature special protective coatings designed to resist absorption of water, oil and grease and to prevent abrasions to finishes. The coatings are repulpable — they can be recycled along with all paper materials.

Laminations also offers products that provide additional environmental benefits, such as PF PalletTop®, which weighs two to three times less than wooden pallet tops, resulting in lower freight costs and less fuel consumption during transport. In addition, Laminations is compliant with U.S. Green Building Council initiatives. Laminations’ plant locations are strategically positioned so that fuel consumption can be minimized.
