Fulfilling its commitment to product development in response to growing customer needs, Laminations recently introduced three new innovations to the VBoard® line: HydroShield™, PetroShield™ and ScuffShield™.

The primary reason these three products were developed is because customers were increasingly looking for ways to protect their shipments from specific elements that can cause damage during transport, including water, oil and grease, and abrasion.

Laminations packaging engineers analyzed multiple application situations in careful detail to develop the most functional, cost-effective solutions to meet these needs. “We examined all aspects of our customers’ situations to truly tailor a product to fit their needs,” said Keri Otremba, new product engineer for Laminations. “We sought to find the best approach for our customers to keep their costs low, while giving them a better functioning packaging solution.”

At the same time, the engineering team sought to develop solutions that could be manufactured with minimal environmental impact. “Laminations has a commitment to recycling, and we seek to use recycled materials in production and to create products that are recyclable,” continued Otremba. “The coatings we are using for these new products are repulpable—they can be recycled along with all other paper materials.”

The result was three unique edge protection products that are each designed for  specific applications.

HydroShield features a water-resistant coating that will help VBoard maintain its integrity when used in environments where water is present.

PetroShield’s unique coating keeps oil and grease where they need to be—on the customer’s product, rather than absorbing into the VBoard. PetroShield is ideal for protecting products such as metal machine parts where oil or grease is present as a means to prevent rusting or increase lubrication.

ScuffShield features a coating that can be used to resist abrasion on products that have finished surfaces, such as furniture that has been painted or stained.
